This week the children will be working hard to wrap up our letter Ll unit (Superkid Lily) in Reading and our Math topic introducing addition. They are also having fun with our special Holiday programs and our Gingerbread theme which incorporates Math, Science and Reading. We had many special visitors on Monday. Cass the Superkid stopped by our room in the morning to say hello and share some of her cookies with us. Then, after lunch, the students met some Whos, the Grinch, and SANTA!!! It was a wonderful program for the students. Later this week the children will sing at our annual Kindergarten holiday sing-along and we'll enjoy a musical performance from the Tide Tones as well. Meanwhile, in the classroom... ...after listening to several versions of The Gingerbread Man the children first drew designs and then built ways fo help the Gingerbread man cross a river. In the story the Gingerbread Man would not go in the water and we investigated to find out his reason. The children did a wonderful job. They worked really well with their partners and came up with some really interesting boats and bridges. Using the Chatterpix app, the students created very short videos about their projects. We are in the process of adding them to a Padlet and should be finished up by tomorrow afternoon. The link will be posted under the Padlet table and a note will go home tomorrow (Wednesday). We are excited to share it with you!

This week, the children finished a unit on the letter Dd and began our Ss unit featuring Sal. Sal is active and loves sports so many of our athletic students and sports fans are pretty excited about this unit. The children will listen for the S sound at the beginning and ending of words. They will also begin reading words and short stories by blending together sounds they have already learned.
In Math we are working on numbers up to 100. Children will be expected to count to 100 independently by the end of the year. The numbers from 20-100 are being introduced using a 100 chart. We will be looking for patterns and learning to count by 5s and 10s. |
