Early this week we wrapped up a brief science unit on changes in spring. To finish up the week we decided to have a little fun while we learned about work, forces and simple machines like inclined planes. We also used what we learned about constructing shapes for a construction challenge: How High Can You Go?. Check out the pictures below. When asked what they thought of our investigations this week many children had the same response-hard but fun! The children had to stretch their thinking and use some really great problem solving skills and teamwork for each challenge.

In Math class today, the children explored solid and plane shapes by building with them! Well, the leprechaun visited our classroom today. This morning the children had a bit of good luck when the leprechaun left them a lucky coin and a fun coloring page (he threw away my morning work). He turned a bit mischievous this afternoon when he toppled all the messy desks in our room. Everyone helped to clean up and we had a good laugh.
Things have been pretty calm and routine in our classroom lately. Our class has been getting a lot of attention for their great behavior outside the classroom. I often walk into the cafeteria to find my students waving PRIDE dollars in the air that they received for good behavior at lunch. In the hallway, our class is frequently complimented on their great behavior. The entire class also earned two PRIDE dollars each in Mrs. Larish;s PSSA class for outstanding behavior during the month of February! I am s proud of them!
On another note, I am very pleased with the States of Matter projects the students created on their iPads. The students did very well with both the facts learned and the tech skills needed to complete the project. They were so proud of themselves and their work. I did send a link for each student's project to parents who had previously provided working emails. I hope you enjoyed them. Next up is a project all about solid and plane shapes in Math class. It will take a little while to finish so stay tuned! The children did a wonderful job writing rhyming words to wear on their hats. They're excited to wear their own favorite hats on Friday.
The children enjoyed listening to the Lorax read by a special guest reader from the high school. Thank you Tiffany! Our class also made a Cat in the Hat rhyming hat project. Thank you to Kamryn for sharing her copy of the ABC book. The class had fun reviewing our letters and sounds with this silly story today.
