In Reading, the students are still being introduced to a new letter each week but we have moved quickly from reading isolated words to reading our first Superkids stories. You can help your child improve his or her reading skills and read more fluently by listening to your child read the stories that will appear in each new workbook your child brings home.
In Math we are working on fully understanding the numbers 0-20. The children have learned and continue to practice naming and writing these numbers. They will review how to add and subtract these numbers and how to break each whole number into parts. Your child needs to be able to recognize and use these numbers automatically to be successful in first grade. You can help by reviewing your child's Math papers as they come home and by allowing your child to count aloud to you each day. If he/she has already mastered counting to 100, have him/her count by tens or even twos!
Our January Pride Program is coming up this Friday. Coming back after the Holidays is always difficult and the many delays and closings, although necessary for the children's safety, have made it hard for some of the children to be on their best behavior. Still, most of the children will be attending our program which is a Movie Day/Chinese Auction. The children are really looking forward to it and we are hoping to have a winner in our classroom.
If you haven't already done it, please remember to sign and return your child's report card in its envelope. Also keep in mind that breakfast is not served when there is a 2 hour delay. Please make sure your child eats at home on those days. Thanks!
