In Math we began Topic 7-Addition. Children will join together groups of counters to add and will add sets of pictures together. They will write number sentences to describe their pictures using the words 'and' and 'is' as well as the + and = signs. We will also continue to review numbers, especially 11-20, as some children are struggling with identifying and writing these numbers. Finally, we practice counting aloud to 100 twice each day as this is a required skill for Kindergarten.
Coming up in Social Studies, we will be studying money, wants and needs, and jobs people can do to earn money. This will lead into our "When I grow up..." activities the following week.
While we are focusing primarily on Social Studies this week, we will do a bit of science as well. An investigation of force and motion will tie in perfectly to our Hot Rod racing unit in Reading. Many children already enjoy building vehicles at recess each day so, I think they will be excited by the upcoming Science and Reading themes.
