We followed up our trip with a unit on Fall Weather and Activities in Science and Social Studies. We learned about all four seasons, fall weather and pumpkin harvests. We will continue to do fall themed science activities for the rest of this month, including a fun pumpkin investigation on our Fall Fun Day. This celebration will be held on Friday, October 25th. Children may bring their costumes to school that day but be sure to leave any "weapons" that may be included with your child's costume at home. Also, the school is providing a special snack that day. Please do not send in any edible treats. We will parade around the school (weather permitting) Friday afternoon around 2pm.
On a more serious note, we have begun Level One: Meet the Superkids in our Reading Program. The children will be learning a letter in each unit, its sound, and will learn to identify that sound in words. They will begin to take initial sounds tests a the end of each unit. You will see the children's test folder this week.
In Math class, children are reviewing the concepts from Topic 2, more and fewer, with larger sets. They are also learning to compare numbers using the terms greater then and less than. A key skill in all areas of the curriculum, but especially in Math, is the ability to follow directions and show what you know. We continue to work on these skills every day.
I would like to add one last thank you to those of you who helped your child complete the Red Ribbon Week Drawing Contest entries. There were some very creative and thoughtful entries for Room K5!
I will be posting today of a few projects we have recently completed. I hope to add more Fall Fun pictures very soon.
