The children are really enjoying Level 2 of our Superkids Reading program: The Superkids Club. They've been practicing the letters Bb, Rr, and Nn so far. This coming week we will move on to the letter Mm. There are usually two letters and two stories featured in each workbook. The children have been doing a great job reading together and in Guided reading groups. They continue to blend the sounds they have learned to read words and some longer multi-syllable words are now appearing in their stories. The Superkids have found a place for their club, decorated it, and are now deciding what kinds of fun things they can do together. These stories also led to conversations about how we can continue to get along and be nice to our friends in the classroom and on the playground.
We have been spending a lot of time composing and decomposing numbers. We are still using number sentences to represent different groups that can be used to create numbers. In addition, we've been reviewing number writing and counting skills. Nice the. Urgent topic is complete, we will move onto something new-Measurement! I am sure the children will enjoy this practical and hands-on unit.
We've just completed a "When I Grow Up" unit. The children learned why people need jobs and studied examples of the many types of jobs people can choose. They read fiction and non-fiction books, researched jobs online and wrote about jobs they'd like to have someday. Their ideas will appear in the Pottsville Republican sometime in April in an insert called A Child's View.
The children finished our water investigation with the big idea: Water can change objects. They painted with watercolors, occasionally breaking to make observations on how some candy hearts (left over from Valentine's Day) were dissolving in water. We wrapped things up with a review of all three states of matter. Upcoming Science themes include Spring weather, the sky, and outer space.
Book orders are due Tues. 3/14 (Wed. if a snow day is necessary). Gym day is Tuesday (or possibly Wed ❄️❄️❄️❄️)
