Last week was a busy week. The children learned all about the letter Nn in our Superkids Reading lessons and they are learning to add in Math. In science we made our very own particleboard sculptures and learned about sawdust and wood shavings. Our read alouds this past week focused on Spring weather. We got a little silly when we read Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. The children wrote about what type of food they would lke to see raining from the sky.
Next week we will learn about the letter Mm and will read about how the Superkids choose a leader for the Superkids club. We will continue practicing addition skills in Math. We will wrap up the wood part of our science unit and begin learning all about the properties of paper. We have one more week to go to earn Pride Points for the upcoming program-scenes from Into the Woods. Also, children have only a few days left to earn gold coins on their shamrocks for our end of month prizes. The children enjoyed St. Patrick's Day today. A leprecaun visited our room and left behind some shamrocks and a game for us to play. Luckily the only mess the leprechaun left behind was some gold glitter sprinkled around the room. We also enjoyed a beautiful and warm recess outside today.
This afternoon the children learned how the shape of wood can be changed with sandpaper. They should be bringing their extra sandpaper and the wood they were working on home with them today. It's Monday morning and I am looking forward to a great week. We will be studying the letter Rr and reading about The Superkids decorating their new clubhouse. In Math we will continue studying graphs and probability (Is something likely to happen?). Our test is scheduled for Friday.
Our schedule this week will be a little different due to PSSA's. We will have our co-curricular classes in the mornings. That will leave us with some extra time in the afternoon to dive into our new FOSS science unit on wood and paper. Today the students will learn where wood comes from and how it is processed. Our new table team names for March are:
Shamrocks, Green team, Gold team and the Raindrops The Pride Carnival was a huge success. The children made a graph showing their favorite carnival activities and Face Painting was the class favorite. Quite a few children in K5 were out sick on the day of the carnival so we will be having a mini make-up carnival in the classroom this Friday for those students. Today we began our new FOSS Science module on Wood and paper. The children explored object made of wood and paper and sorted them. They then glued pictures of wood and paper items in their Science Notebooks. On Thursday, children will learn about different types of wood |
