As I noted on our home page, Children need only bring a book bag and a snack each day. All school supplies will be provided by the district, the PTO, and myself. Also, make sure all clothing complies with our dress code which can be viewed on our school website. You may send an extra set of clothes in a Zip-Loc or plastic shopping bag to be kept in your child's cubby in case of spills or accidents.
Another good tip is to make sure children get to bed extra early, especially during the first week of school. After those late summer evenings full of play and activities it may be difficult to transition to an earlier bedtime but it is worth it. A good night's rest will help your child cope with the changes and expectations they will soon face. A good breakfast will help your child stay focused throughout the morning as we do the bulk of our Reading and Math lessons. Don't be surprised if your child is tired after school. Even children who have spent full days at preschool or daycare may take some time to adjust to the busier schedule that comes with being a Kindergartener.
I will be going over some school policies and some basic classroom routines on our Bus Run day on August 24th. I will discuss what a typical day in our room is like and explain our academic curriculum with you on Back to School Night in September. I can't wait to meet the newest members of our John. S. Clarke family next month!
