It's been a few days since my last post and it's been a busy week. I was out of the room Wednesday for a training and the substitute teacher said the students had a very good day with her. We have been very busy making some Fall projects to hang in the hall. We will be taking down our coconut trees, counting the coconuts earned for good behavior, and choosing prizes for September. We also had a Pride Program scheduled for all the children who earned enough Pride Points to attend but unfortunately, it has been postponed until next week. Tomorrow we will make a new project for our Rewards Board and the children w

We had our first indoor recess today due to the rainy weather. The children enjoyed using paint, play-doh, legos, and our computers but we still missed being outdoors. We learned about Johnny Appleseed this afternoon and the children used their patter We read a book all about Pennsylvania today to get ready for our Post Card Pals program. They were really interested in the page about coal mining. They will help me write a letter telling other Kindergarten students all about our state. We will be mailing 100 Post Cards to classes around the country and hopefully we will get 100 back.
Today the children finished our latest Reading unit on Jingles, Poems and Rhymes. Look for orange folders to come home tomorrow. One student asked me to write that we did a "real lot of work" today but we had a lot of fun too. Another student's favorite part of the day was learning how to work in centers. All the students enjoyed a very silly rhyming story called "The Hungry Thing."
Today the children practiced rhyming with nursery rhymes and poems. They also learned some jump rope jingles which some children tried out on the playground at recess today. They are practicing to work independently in our learning centers in the afternoon. Ask your child which center is his or her favorite!
Today the children learned about our Fall Fundraiser at a special program. We are hoping every child will sell at least one item.
Today the children finished up our Reading unit about the Elves and the Shoemaker. Please help them clean out their orange folders and return them tomorrow. We will begin our Math chapter on patterns tomorrow. Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend our Back to School Night. I enjoyed being able share information about our day with you. Please contact me with any thoughts or questions you may have regarding our classroom and curriculum.
I am looking forward to seeing you tonight at Back to School Night. It begins at 7pm in the JSC Cafeteria.
The children are getting excited about Back to School Night. They made a special present for you in school today which you will find on their desks when you arrive. You will also see their very first graph hanging up. We completed it together today. The children are also earning coconuts for good behavior. You will learn what that means on Back to School Night too. Mrs. D'Obilda mentioned they were very well behaved in Library today.
The children enjoyed sorting our animal counters by color today. They also made a special project to hang up in the classroom. They can't wait for you to see them on Back to School night. They wanted me to tell you they enjoyed recess the most today but they also liked segmenting sentences into words using a special ball game. I wanted to thank you for helping your child check SPOT folders nightly. The children have been very responsible in turning their homework in on time each week. Have a great weekend!
