I was at an iPad conference all day yesterday. I discovered many ideas for enhancing our work in the classroom and am excited to try them. The children are having a good week so far. Many of the children enjoyed Art class today. They made fingerprint lights and also colored pictures. Christopher enjoyed hearing our Superkid Lily's song and Addison always likes working on letters. Shay really enjoyed our small group work today. We played a S'mores word family game. Mitchell liked writing in journals and using iPads during small group work even better.

We recently began a study of the states of matter and winter weather. Today we spent a few minutes outside catching snowflakes. The children used black paper and magnifying glasses as tools to help them study their snowflakes. Here is what they had to say:
Ashley found a snowflake with six pointy branches. Christopher observed that some snowflakes looked a little shiny. Charlie observed that some snowflakes were smooshy and you couldn't always find 6 branches. Most of the student scientists found that it was easier to find 6 branches on small single flakes than on larger clumps of snow. RJ also saw a snowflake like this. Mitchell saw that snowflakes can break when they hit something. His flake ended up looking like a letter T. Avery noticed broken snowflakes too. Shay observed a hexagon shape in his snowflake. Sam observed a diamond shape snowflake. Based on what we've learned about snowflake shapes, Sam concluded it was not a whole snowflake. |
